When it comes to reducing your carbon footprint, one aspect that is often overlooked is the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process. While EVs are generally seen as a greener alternative to traditional gasoline vehicles, it’s important to consider the carbon footprint of the charging infrastructure that supports them. And, when it comes to the manufacturing of EV charging stations, location matters.

Manufacturing EV charging stations in Australia can reduce your carbon footprint as compared to manufacturing in Europe or Asia. The reason for this is that the carbon emissions associated with shipping goods from Asia or Europe to Australia are much higher than those associated with transporting goods within Australia. This is due to the vast distances involved and the transportation methods used, such as shipping and airfreight.

For example, according to a study conducted by the Carbon Trust, the carbon emissions associated with shipping a container of goods from China to the UK are approximately 3.3 times higher than those associated with shipping the same container from the UK to China. This is due to the fact that goods from China are typically transported via shipping, which is a highly polluting form of transportation due to the use of heavy fuel oil.

When it comes to manufacturing EV charging stations, the carbon emissions associated with shipping can be significant. Many of the components used in EV charging stations are imported from overseas, which means that they need to be shipped to Australia before they can be assembled. By manufacturing these components locally, the carbon emissions associated with shipping can be greatly reduced.

In addition to reducing the carbon footprint associated with shipping, manufacturing EV charging stations locally in Australia can also help to reduce the carbon emissions associated with the manufacturing process itself. This is because Australia has strict environmental regulations and standards that manufacturers must comply with, which can lead to more sustainable manufacturing practices and the use of cleaner energy sources.

Reducing the carbon foot print of our charging stations was really important to us and that was a major driver for us to manufacture in Australia and to utilise as many local suppliers that we could said EVOS’ CEO, Marcelo Salgado.
