EVOS signs agreement with FKK to export EV charging solutions to Japan

Brisbane, Australia

Licensing agreement enables advanced manufacturing leader FKK to produce EV chargers for sale in Japan, Southeast Asia and other high-growth markets including India, and is the preferred EV charger supplier to the largest energy retailer in the Philippines.

EVOS to continue to manufacturer chargers for local market while continuing to engineer and design products for global market and evolving its energy management platform.

Brisbane, Australia, March 11, 2025 – EVOS, an Australian start-up specialising in EV energy management and AC charging for electric vehicles (EVs), today announced that it has signed an agreement with Japanese company FKK to manufacturer and sell EVOS’ leading chargers into the Japan market.

The licensing agreement ensures that EVOS can expand into a new high-growth market and provide a product suitable for Japanese customers. In addition, FKK’s established sales channels and proximity to other Southeast Asian markets, as well as India, allows the company to more quickly and readily export its expertise to cater to demand for at-home and business charging solutions for EV owners and fleet operators.

FKK is an advanced manufacturing company which has specialised in sparkplugs and LED components since it was established in 1954. The agreement with EVOS ensures FKK will enter the EV charging space with a ready-made and proven charging ecosystem, which includes EVOS’ leading energy management cloud platform and Grid Integration Device (GID) systems, with the continual evolvement of those platforms to be undertaken in Australia.

“FKK has proven in over 70 years of operation that they manufacture with precision and develop high quality, advanced products. Our suite of chargers manufactured by FKK will be no exception,” said CEO and co-founder, Marcelo Salgado. “This agreement ensures that we can create chargers that suit the Japanese market, which is a logical market for us to enter given its established shipping lanes to other high-growth EV markets and free trade agreements with nations such as India.”

The first chargers being manufactured under the agreement will be expected to roll out near the end of Q2 this calendar year.

What makes the Japanese market particularly intriguing for EVOS and FKK is the unique parking situation in the high-density nation, as residents without a garage are required to lease a public space to park in various carparks. This makes each space a potential EV charging opportunity, according to CTO and co-founder Chris Crossman.

“For nations to meet their emissions targets, a transition to zero-emissions vehicles is necessary – so unique situations such as Japan’s can be a test case for other countries,” he said. “The EVOS suite of chargers are designed to handle any and all weather conditions while maintaining security and helping owners manage their energy costs by intuitively charging during off-peak periods or when excess renewables are running through the grid. As EV sales ramp up in Japan, we’ll see more deployments like this become the norm rather than the exception.”

Australia sees continued growth as EVs become mainstream

EVOS will continue to expand its local operations and manufacture its suite of chargers in Brisbane for the A/NZ market to meet demand locally, while also engineering and designing the next wave to chargers and solutions for local and global markets.

Highlighting its growing momentum overseas, EVOS is now the preferred EV charger supplier for Movem (a Meralco company) – the largest energy retailer in the Philippines.

“Last year more than 90,000 electric vehicles were sold in Australia,” said Salgado. “The demand is here and EVs are hitting an inflection point as lower-cost models enter the market, making the entry point to EVs much lower for the average Australian.

“The more EVs are purchased, the more charging at home and work becomes critical particularly if they can manage their energy costs in doing so, which makes our suite of products ideal for EV owners.”

The company has developed a MyEVOS user app to allow users to start and stop their charger remotely, set charging schedules and access detailed information on each charging session. This accompanies the SB7 7.4kW charger, built with the everyday EV owner in mind. The SB7 charger can add 35km of range every hour of charging time, making it the ideal solution to ensure an EV is charged to meet daily driving needs.

EVOS has also seen increased sales of the original Fleet22 22kW AC charger and the company’s unique EVOS Energy Platform, a first-of-its-kind energy management solution for EV-ready business sites. The platform intelligently manages EV charging in real-time in response to total building demand, schedules and allocates preferential charging for multi-vehicle setups, and uses smart tariff selection – a game changer for energy cost management.

“We don’t just make chargers, but solve the issue of energy,” said Chief Experience Officer and co-founder Seshan Weeratunga. "As we move even more towards zero-emissions vehicles, both here and in markets like Japan, we need to ensure that we’re not overwhelming the grid but instead adapting to it and working with it."
